This years "Gregs 6 day rod run" was a success, and all that went along decided we should do something similar in 2019..so, I have a plan!..As I, and others, quite often go to Toowoomba's "High Altitude Rod Run", I decided to start mine on the tail end, so 8-9-10 is Toowoombas, my "Gregs 7 day rod run" starts on the 10th..The Sunday arvo after Toowoomba's run.and goes to the following Saturday, 16th march.
Now, the choice is yours for the first day..leave whatever time you choose..go early on Sunday 10th March if you want to get to the first overnight stop at Miles..lots to see and do if you get there early..I will probably just leave around lunchtime for the 210km journey.
Lots of accommodation, but I have chosen the Western Downs Motor Inn..we were here on the 6 day run, very nice..good restaurant on site...but you choose where you want to stay..
Discover the Pioneer Village if you get there early enough, as each following day, we usually hit the road by about 8:30-9am..
Where possible, we will try to all eat together..we had under 30 on the last run..numbers higher than this may be a squeeze at some places..but we will try.
The route for 2019..with overnight stops at Miles-St George-Moree-Inverell-Tenterfield-Casino, then home.around about 1400 kms, from memory.
So Monday 11th, we head down the Leichardt Hwy, turning off to go to Glenmorgan for a stop, then on to Surat for another stop, then on into St. George for the night. Biggest drive..280km.
At Glenmorgan, we check out Montys Garage!
A stop at Surat for fuel and food no doubt..
Our overnight stay..probably all go to the RSL for dinner.
This is where I have booked in St George..but do your own research!
Next day, Tuesday 12th, we leave heading south, and passing by the famous "free beer yesterday" Nindigully Pub.
Breeze through Thallon, maybe stop for a pic next to the huge silos..then on through Mungindi and towards Moree..This area is Artesian basin, so there are hot springs in Mungindi if you want a quick dip!
This days drive was was 240km, so time to relax in Moree!
The motel I am stopping at is the Albert, as it is attached to the local RSM club..so we can all just roll up there for dinner together.
Wednesdays drive is short, so maybe time for a dip at the Moree Artesian Pool..
140kms, and we get to another overnight destination..Inverell
Once again, I picked a motel that is also attached to an RSL..makes it easy for the meals at night
Lots to see and do in town, guys probably want to see the transport museum, gals probably want to do some country shopping!
Thursday, we head north to Tenterfield, but I'm thinking a stop in Glen Innes to visit with the Townsend family might be the go..70km to Glen Innes, then another 90 to Tenterfield.
should get there in plenty of time to discover the town...the "Tenterfield Saddler"
get adventuress and go see the huge bald rock areas..
I have chosen the Henry Parkes here..a bit pricey at first, but I got the room rate down to $120 a couple..there is a full restuarant, and full buffet breakfast, which costs a fair bit more...
Friday sees us duck over on the 130km trip to our last nights stay..Casino!
the accomodation is varied here, so do your homework..this place does have 30 rooms available
so that's it..last night out for dinner , and head for home on the Saturday morning..great times with friends, both old and new..here's a few pics from this years run..
need more info, email me at greg@comstar.com.au, or 0437323133..just remember I will be out of the country from August to mid October, so won't be able to respond until I get back.
