"Gregs 6 day rod run"..lets get this organised!

Well, it's a long way off yet, but time to start thinking (and booking accomodation), if you're going to join me on my 6 day outback rod run.....a 1500 or so KM run in a loop of S.E. Queensland....

Start date is Wednesday 16th May 2018..leave from wherever, or even join in from any point if you can't do the whole trip...and it's just a drive with no particular things to do or see, more like discovering and adapting as we go along....
Sure, I've organised it, set the dates, got the travel permits, but the rest is up to you..book your own accomodation at each stop, and if anyone has some ideas of things to do, or not misss, just spread the word between us all...only been a week or so since I set the date, and have about 16 starters so far!

The accomodation can sometimes go quick in these parts, so I would suggest you book early, definitely don't try to snag a room the day you get there..might be sleeping in your car!..I have all my accomodation booked , so get in early.....

I'm suggesting at this point, and it may change as time gets closer, that the Brisbane people meet at the BP Caboolture at say 9:30 am 16/5/18, and then we head off approx 190km via Kilcoy and get to Nanango for lunch...and meet up with others that come from elsewhere...then head on the 160 km to first nights stay at Gayndah
Best place to wait in Nanango I guess is the Peanut Van....
Here is the route, the towns we get to each night, travelling anti clockwise...longest stretch is the first day, around 360km, secong longest will be the approx 325km Biloela to Miles section.
Below is some of the Gayndah accomodation, check each place, but to save me some typing, all motels in all towns vary between about $80 through to $150, depending on the rooms available, the town your in, the number of beds, whether Breakfast is included...so do your homework like I did, I looked up dozens of motels, used Trip Advisor to see their star rating.....and paid the deposit!..easy!
Gayndah A.9 rooms, 41612500**Colonial Motor Inn, 12 rooms, 41611999**Country Roads, 18 rooms, 41611200**Riverview Caravan Park & Cabins..check first, as busy time for fruit picking 0417791750**............May I suggest you mention my name, or Gregs 6 day rod run, as some owners in all the towns have said they will give a discounted rate to you people coming on this run....

Guess there will be things that unfold as we get to each town, shops maybe, sight see-ing, but like this first day, we will most likely only get to town by 3-3:30..so not much time with booking in etc....probably try to all catch up somewhere for dinner...or do your own thing individually or in groups..this is laid back, do what you want, nothing planned unless you do it yourself...
Thursday 17th may will see us head out of town I assume by about 10am, roughly just under 3 hours should see us in town at Biloela...so more time this afternoon..like the other towns...we'll find something to see and do...
Quite a few motels in this town, I only checked out a few of them..The Callide has only 6 rooms left at this time, 49925080, but the Silo Motor Inn has 12, 49925555....also, try Biloela Cenre 49922622, Countryman 49921488, Palms 49921552...jus google it like I did, and check one against the rest...
For dinner, I was thinking we might all try to be seated together at Bilo Anzac Club..usually plenty of room, food at reasonable prices...but I'm open to suggestions..
The Biloela showgrounds has an event on the weekend, so thats why I worked the dates to get there before the rush...so..Book Now!
Friday 18th...a long-ish drive, from Bilo down to Miles..about 332 km, so once again, on the road by 10am, in at miles early afternoon...time to go check out the Pioneer Village today, if you haven't been there, it's not bad to check out...
seems like Miles has the most choices of Motels, and from 3 star to 5 star..you'll find a room to suit the budget..the Western Downs has25 rooms, but they also own a caravan park close by, and have cabins there as well..they have suggested we eat at a close by hotel, that also offers a courtesy bus...46271211.........The Golden West has 6 rooms, 46271688, the Swagman pictured above has 28 rooms, 46276663, also try the Royal 46271517, and the Outback, 46272100.................

Like groundhog day...get up..do it all again..so today, Saturday 19th, it's a 225 km drive down thru Moonie until we arrive around lunchtime in Goondiwindi
Country Roads has 24 rooms, $135 a night, 46713930...if we get in our bookings early enough, we might all fit in here!!
Town House, similar price, 15 rooms, but they also have a restuarant
also try Mcintyre, 46712477**Comfort Inn, 46712888, Ascot, 46715566.

Think this is one of the pubs in Gundi..might look at all eating here...?..open to suggestions for those who know more about ALL these towns, than I do...
and our last nights stay...just a short 200km trip into Warwick...plenty enough time to see some things in this town, plenty of shops to check out, Morgan park Raceway have a motorbike event on if you want o watch that...or just go to your motel and have a relaxing afternoon after quite a few days on the road....stacks of accomodation, like Coachman above18 rooms 46613488...
also, Warwick Vines, 46611810**Comfort Inn, 46611699**Centre Point Mid City, 46613488**Buckaroo, 46613755..and forgot their #, but McNevins (info@mcnevins.com.au)

Once again, last night together..suggest we all go to the RSL for dinner..usually plenty of room, even on a Sunday night....and that is just about the end of the trip...up the next day, say farewell, and head at your leisure for your own homes...for Brissy people,..be home for lunch just about...

so there you have it, sure, a lot of driving, 1500kms, but only a few hours each day, and no need to go fast, should even have time to stop along the way each day if there is something you want to see...and not everyone has to stop..just treat it as your own holiday, just with a bunch of friends to catch up with each arvo/night..

all I ask is if you can try to give me an idea of if youre coming along, just helps with knowing how big or small this group is, like when I try to put seats aside at night for dinner..I'd like to give a bit of warning up to a month before...16th May to 21st may...lets do it!
