here's some memories...just for the Brisbane people!

Talking about the old 36 in the last blog got me thinking about old time pics to jog memories of growing up in Brisbane.......who rembers any of this..
Gabba five ways...look at the car parts add on the shop...
More of the Gabba...remember the little traffic contollers office up in the middle of the intersection....and where's the whistlin' cop
This servo at the gabba looks like it was next to the train line, where the bus tunnel is now..different fuel companies in those days....
And most of us grew up learning about cars at the EKKA, every Saturday night!
Who can forget "Rock N Roll George"......every Fri/Sat night, he would do laps..
Bottom of Queen Street....must be 1965/6/7 era...means Dougie would be up at the Wintergarden selling orange cordial and jaffas...
Infamous stretch of road...looks like Grey St or was it Stanley St..did many laps up both of them.....Burleigh Marr Oysters..Wizard Smash Repairs..Britons Used Cars...Grey Street Car Sales..
Only place you could get fuel late in the 50s/60s

I never went to Cloudland....the Speedway got me instead of girls...hahah
I did go here once...to see the "MONKEES"....remember when Ron Wanless would work with the trotters, then box here in the afternoon, then race at the Speedway that night...and his wrecking yard was the place to go on a saturday morning to see what  new (old) cars had been dragged in.

  1. Glad to see the Brisbane pics. It was only the other day I discussing the train at the Gabba with the man with the bell and flag.

My father could get us anywhere....as long as we went via the Gabba 5 ways!

  4. Ah, Brisbane – a city that holds a treasure trove of memories for its lucky residents! From the iconic Brisbane River to the vibrant neighborhoods, this city has woven its magic into the lives of many.

For those of us who call Brisbane home, memories are etched into every corner. Remember those lazy weekends spent strolling through the South Bank Parklands, with the Wheel of Brisbane spinning gracefully against the skyline? The laughter of children echoing through the Streets Beach, creating a symphony of joy.
