A visit to the Captain, to get pics of Wals roadster..

Some of you will have seen these first three pics from last time I went to Davids shop...The Mercury coupe was in full swing....
but the rare METALURGIQUE was consuming all the spare time, trying to get it done as well...
So the old faithful 40 coupe has been the run around rod....but the Metalurgique is just about finished, so in its place.....
yep..in for the resto is Davids 1931 Rolls Royce....and this is a big project....work has started..
the mostly wood and alloy that makes up the bodywork might look like it is in place...but all of it needs to be removed, rebuilt, restored, refitted...mammoth job!
check out the wheels..they come with three balancing assemblies, so you can add or subtract weight to get them correct...lots of innovative parts..the bag underneath is catching lube from the yet to be rebuilt onboard lube system..just depress a lever while driving and the entire chassis/working parts gets some lubricant!
Hmm..rhd, and the handbrake and gearshift is on the right, next to the door...strange...another lever inside shuts or opens the grille to the radiator, while another adds extra damping to friction shocks, that work in conjunction with the oil shocks...hmm..where's that owners manual...you would need to know a lot to drive this thing..
cylinder head is almost restored, but copper pipes have to be swaged into where the pushrods run, and some water galleries need addressing...but it's almost done..
next job..remove the bottom end for re-co...this car was innovative..has a distributor on this side, and a magneto on the other side, which can be used separately or together
the stories it could tell..1931 to 1959....David has all the documented history from when it was built..
Magneto mounts at the rear...drainpipe exhaust..and lots of alloy..
still, the Merc hasn't been entirely forgotten..frame is just about ready now, very little to do before teardown and paint..
body is all done, so bit of paint, bit of wiring and trim..all in good time...
so Dave is looking after Wallys roadster...it has to go, and please pass the word around to anyone you know that is chasing a 32 highboy..we've set the price at $65,000, as that's what was indicated that the car was worth to build...that being said, an offer close to this mark would be considered..
the body and chassis came from C&W here in the Redlands
as you can see..we don't know exactly all the details, but the pics tell the story..
beam axle---sb chev---T350---9" rear, with coilovers.--.15" fronts, ---17" rear rims..
Wal was part way through making some side curtains..all the alloywork for them is just about finished, and you can see the two points that they would clip into..

there is storage areas for tools etc. under the floor, next to the battery compartment, as well as those you see in the sides..
 radio..gauges..tilt column..heater..
yep..TOP 32...he did a good job..subtle little finishing touches everywhere that you don't notice at first...
350 was rebuilt locally, think Mick Vaughan did it..looks like some aftermarket WORLD Products heads..not sure of the rest..I will ring Mick to see if he did it...and remembers what's in it..
so there you go...a great little roadster, just needs a new home..
ph David on 0412 719 071 if you want to look at the car...but no test pilots!..serious enquiries please!
