Toowoomba Rod Run 2018

After a couple of years missing, we decided to head back up the mountain to take in the annual Toowoomba Rod run..no disappointments..it was great, even a bit of rain here n there failed to stop the event being the usual success it is...sure, numbers were down a bit, but much more manageable with around 120 entrants..highly recommend this on your calendar of events.
Friday night at the showgrounds was a meet..talk..register..then back early Saturday morning for the breakfast, before the big day of activities..random pics below of the cars on the Sat. morning..

the start of the day involved an observation run to a mystery destination/car collection...most of us were not aware of what we were about to see..the drive into the property, lush landscaped gardens everywhere, and parking down below...then up to see the cars..
thru the front door..nice setup..has the right amount of signs and history hanging...

another peek outside at the manicured gardens..
back to the cars..old Inter truck was cool...
the Model A even better to a Ford nut like me..
and a T truck in for some work..
 a a survivor FJ ute.....this was all very impressive..but...
Go through the doors to the next room..ta-da...the Caddilac display...words cannot explain the visual sights we took in..look past the cars..the floors..the walls..signs..movies..milk bar..this room had it all!

and another room off this room..more vintage tin..some restored, some original..some obviously worth many many $$$$$
just a couple of old Rollers..

 and..the working milk-bar..nostalgia overload..things like that everywhere..

and a small tribute wall to the family, the family were ever so welcoming to all of us..nothing was too much trouble, and were happy to show off their fabulous collection.Thank you.

even out girls found time to sit in the gardens while we guys did one more lap taking in this terrific display.

Wonderful morning there...then, back to the Showgrounds for luch, and then, for me, the afternoon was kept busy with a visit to the Open House at Toowoomba Rod and Custom
 A coupe in progress..
radical pickup looks close to being finished
the A coupe again..note the black paint..more on this later..
I hadn't seen this style Fentons before
 deuce roadster almost finished
Nicks coupe is really coming along well...some very innovative workmanship here..
new job in for more work..partially finished 32 is in for more of T R &  Cs finesse..they take on any job from partial builds, or new builds from start to finish.. turn key ..

the significance of that black coupe..L to R..Ian Carrick owns that black 28 coupe being built....John Davies drove in with his black 28 coupe, ..John Thorley drove in his black 28 coupe...Gary Wright drove in his 28 coupe..all full fendered..all just a bit different in their styling..love it!!
 Here's Garys..fresh build..rego the week of the run..Top 10 was the result!
T R & Cs owners have very talented children as well, and daughter Alana had here display of original paintings and prints for sale..see my prior bog on her work.
So..a nice night of food, and music..off to bed, and do it all again Sunday..up early to be at Cobb nCo. Museum for the static display..and the weather was perfect..

 The John Thorley A coupe

not long after this pic, a great lunch was provided, the Top 10 trophies were handed out, a few give-aways, then back on the road heading for home..the Fri-Sat-Sun just seemed like a blur, it went that quick...now back to reality and wait another year and do it all again!!
