Also then called in to see my old buddy, Charlie Duran, founder of Deuces Limited in Texas..lucky we did, as he passed away two weeks later..sad!
went around to see my friend Syd, and his collection of hot rods..
Then called by another friend that les W has made, his farm had lots of cars to view..
This Merc was very desireable, and was for sale for the right money..
more pics as we walked the yard..
Just a typical fence/gate to a ranch...they love their lazer cut signs in Texas..
Les W took us downtown to see the cattle drive at 11am..Fort Worth Stockyards.
great pubs..
the indoor arena at the Stockyards..
full on food ..
Here they come..
Fort Worth is the country cousin to Dallas, they are only separated by about 1 hour drive, but worlds apart in the shops/buildings/people..
Our little group of Dave Fairbrother, son Clint, Me and Anita, Joy and Malcolm Case
and our host/tour guide etc., ex pat Les "Lonestar "Winter..
another of his friends shop, Murray Custom Rods..
Then it was a trip over to Arlington, half way between Fort Worth and Dallas, to check out prices and availability of parts at Summit Racing.....Huge-huge store..(stats I found online..) .750,000 square feet building sitting on a 48 acre piece of prime real estate, right on the Interstate 20.Cost 82 million to build, and has 330 employees
So..our brief two days with Les W, then we headed off, following him towards Louisville
Caught up with another friend, Randy, in his new 3 winda
also caught up with Mike in his 36 three window..
we stopped off along the way, seeing some of the iconic towns..Memphis and Nashville
also found the time in Nashville to see the shop from the Cable TV show, American Pickers
Nope..they wouldnt sell us the deuce grille shell
old Falcon convert caught our eye in the parking lot..
Google 'OPRYLAND HOTEL"...I took everyone to see it, as it is a sight to behold..from the net...2888 rooms, 2 acres of glass in the atrium, 2 waterfalls, 9 acres of indoor gardens, 2,500 employees..amazing place! Well worth a look if you travel to Nashville..
thats it for now, next blog is hot rods from Louisville!!
